Licensing Policy
General Licensing Principle
The Journal of AI-Integrated Medical Sciences (JAIMS) publishes scholarly articles under an open-access licensing framework designed to provide readers with immediate and lawful rights to access, use, share, and reuse published research while preserving appropriate attribution to the authors and the scholarly record.
Unless a different licence is expressly identified for a particular item of content, scholarly articles published by JAIMS are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0). The applicable licence is stated on the journal website and should also be displayed with the published article and its full-text versions.
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence
The CC BY 4.0 licence permits lawful users to copy, redistribute, reproduce, adapt, transform, and build upon the licensed article in any medium or format, including for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and source, a link to the licence is provided, and any changes made to the original material are indicated.
JAIMS does not add contractual restrictions that contradict or modify the rights granted by the applicable Creative Commons licence. The licence operates according to its official legal terms and conditions.
The official licence terms are available from Creative Commons .
Copyright Ownership
Authors retain copyright in their original scholarly work published by JAIMS, subject to any rights or ownership arrangements that may apply under applicable law or to specific content created under an employment, institutional, governmental, or other contractual framework.
JAIMS does not require authors to transfer copyright ownership to the journal as a condition of publication. Retention of copyright does not restrict the journal's right to publish, distribute, preserve, index, archive, and make the article available under the applicable open-access licence.
Publishing and First-Publication Rights
By submitting a manuscript to JAIMS, authors grant the journal the necessary non-exclusive rights to evaluate, publish, reproduce, communicate, distribute, electronically disseminate, index, archive, preserve, and otherwise make the accepted work available as part of the scholarly record. These rights are necessary for the journal to perform its publishing and preservation functions and do not constitute a transfer of copyright ownership.
Rights Retained by Authors
Subject to the applicable Creative Commons licence and any legitimate third-party rights, authors retain the right to use, share, distribute, reproduce, archive, and otherwise make lawful use of their published work. Authors may also identify their published article as part of their academic record, institutional repository, professional profile, research portfolio, teaching materials, or other lawful scholarly activities.
Authors should ensure that any reuse involving third-party material complies with the separate copyright or licensing conditions applicable to that material.
Repository and Self-Archiving Rights
Because JAIMS articles are published under an open-access Creative Commons licence, authors may deposit and share the published version of their article in lawful institutional, subject-based, national, international, or other appropriate repositories, subject to the terms of the applicable licence and the rights of third parties.
Authors may also share links to the official JAIMS article record and may use the published article in accordance with the rights granted by the applicable Creative Commons licence.
Attribution and Citation
Any reuse, redistribution, adaptation, or reproduction of a JAIMS article under the CC BY 4.0 licence should provide appropriate attribution to the original author or authors, identify the journal and article as the source, provide a link to the applicable Creative Commons licence, and indicate whether changes were made. Users should preserve the integrity of the scholarly citation and bibliographic record wherever reasonably possible.
Third-Party Material and Licence Exceptions
The CC BY 4.0 licence applies only to material for which the authors or JAIMS have the necessary rights to grant the licence. Images, photographs, tables, datasets, figures, instruments, trademarks, excerpts, or other material obtained from third parties may be subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions.
Where third-party material is not included under the article's Creative Commons licence, the article will identify the relevant restriction or permission where reasonably required. Users are responsible for determining whether additional permission is required before reusing material that is not covered by the article's open licence.
Government, Employer, and Other Ownership Arrangements
Where copyright in a manuscript is owned by an employer, government entity, institution, or other rights holder rather than directly by the individual authors, the authors are responsible for confirming that they have the authority to grant the necessary publishing and licensing rights to JAIMS. Any applicable institutional, governmental, employment, or contractual restrictions should be disclosed to the journal before publication.
Applicable Licence and Version
Unless otherwise indicated on the article, the applicable licence is the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0). JAIMS does not modify, supplement, or impose additional contractual restrictions on the standard Creative Commons licence terms. The official Creative Commons legal code governs the rights and obligations created by the licence.
Display of Licensing Information
JAIMS clearly identifies the applicable copyright holder and licence on the journal website and on published articles. Licensing information is intended to be readily visible in the HTML and PDF versions of published articles and, where technically appropriate, incorporated into article metadata. The licence information forms part of the journal's commitment to transparent open-access publishing.
Open-Access Availability
JAIMS provides immediate open access to its scholarly articles through the journal's official electronic platform. Published research is made available without a subscription requirement, registration requirement, or embargo period, subject to any clearly identified lawful exceptions concerning specific third-party material.
Licensing Metadata and Scholarly Discovery
JAIMS seeks to maintain accurate copyright and licensing metadata within its article records and publishing infrastructure. Licence information is intended to accompany article metadata supplied to scholarly discovery, indexing, repository, preservation, and interoperability services where supported by the relevant technical standards.
Published Version and Version of Record
The published JAIMS article constitutes the journal's official version of record. Authors and third parties may distribute or deposit the article in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons licence. Where an article is shared outside the journal's platform, users are encouraged to retain the article's bibliographic information, DOI, citation information, copyright statement, and licence information.
Scholarly Record and Article Integrity
Open licensing does not permit alteration of the scholarly record in a manner that falsely represents the original publication, authorship, findings, or source. Corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, and other formal changes to the publication record remain subject to JAIMS's publication ethics and editorial policies. Reusers may create adaptations where permitted by the CC BY 4.0 licence, but such adaptations should not be presented as the unmodified original JAIMS publication.
No Additional Restrictions on Licensed Reuse
JAIMS does not impose additional contractual restrictions that conflict with the rights granted by the applicable Creative Commons licence. In particular, the journal does not apply an additional “all rights reserved” restriction to scholarly articles published under CC BY 4.0.
Relationship to Copyright and Publishing Rights
This Licensing Policy should be read together with the JAIMS Copyright and Publishing Rights Policy. The Copyright and Publishing Rights Policy establishes ownership and the rights granted to JAIMS for publication and dissemination, while this policy specifies the rights granted to the public under the applicable open-access licence.
Policy Governance
JAIMS may revise its licensing policy when necessary to reflect changes in applicable law, Creative Commons licensing standards, scholarly publishing practices, technical requirements, or relevant indexing and preservation requirements. Any substantive change to the licensing conditions applicable to newly published content will be communicated transparently through the journal's official website.
Licensing statement: Copyright in JAIMS articles is retained by the author or other lawful copyright holder, unless otherwise required by applicable law or a specific rights arrangement. Scholarly articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0), unless another licence is expressly stated for particular content. The licence permits reuse in accordance with its official terms and requires appropriate attribution to the original work.
